  • Dimensions (minimum):
    • 4' width x 180' length, 80 square yards, 78 pounds
    • 8' width x 90' length, 80 square yards, 78 pounds
    • Coverage: ~ 62 blankets per acre (4' or 8')
    • Netting: Top only. 1" x 1" green plastic netting
  • Installation Instructions:
    • Each XCEL Erosion Control Blanket should be installed over a properly prepared, fertilized, seeded area. Make sure the blanket is in contact with the soil over the entire area. Normally, it is not necessary to overlap, dig check spots, anchor ditches or bury the ends of the blanket.
    • Remove protective outer wrapper
    • Unroll blanket, making sure the netting is on top of the excelsior fiber, and the excelsior is in direct contact with the soil
    • Staple blankets securely according to the following staple arrangements
  • Slope Installation
    • Slopes Angles: 2:1 or less - Rainfall & Runoff: light to moderate
    • On short bank, the blanket may be rolled out horizontally or vertically, whichever is more convenient. However, on long and steep banks, it is recommended that the blanket be rolled downslope vertically to prevent sloughing.
    • Following the indicated stapling pattern, fasten blankets securely with appropriate sized staples with minimum staple requirements.

  • 1 foot grid
  • Staple Spacing: 2' horizontal, 3' vertical
  • Staple Size: Most soils: 6" x 1" x 6" - ll gauge
  • 4' and 8' wide blankets: ~ 120 staples per blanket (1 1/2 per square yard)
  • Channel Installation
  • Volume: light to moderate
  • Estimated Velocities: up to 5 1/2 feet per second
  • Flow depths: up to 4 inches
  • Channel Grade: up to 4%
  • Check Slots: normally not required
  • Roll the blanket out along the channel bottom and side slopes in the direction of the water flow. Adjacent blankets should be closely butted or slightly overlapped so that one row of staples will fasten both edges along the seam.

  • A row of staples should be centered down the blanket in-between the staples at the blanket's edge.
  • When coming to the end of a roll, overlap the beginning of the next roll by at least six inches.
  • These are the minimum stapling requirements for this blanket:
    • Staple Spacing: 2' horizontal, 3' vertical
    • Staple Size: Most soils: 6" x 1" x 6" - 11 gauge
    • 4' and 8' wide blankets: ~ 120 staples per blanket (1 1/2 per square yard) (3 blankets wide)
  • Shoreline Installation
    • Always install blanket above the highest normal splash zone on stream banks, lake shores, residential frontages, etc.
    • Important: Under more critical conditions, it is recommended that staple spacing be reduced. The more staples used, the more effective the blanket against increased water flow.
